"Rockin' Good Way (To Mess Around And Fall In Love)" was the second of two hit singles recorded by this "battling" duo during 1960. Mercury Records paired their two top recording performers with the idea to make a complete album together. Dinah saw herself as a "jazz" artist and she saw Brook as something "less", just an R&B man, and she refused to complete the project. Even during their first hit recording together, "Baby (You Got What It Takes)", she sparred with Brook over who would sing what lines, and the battle continued even into this recording as she mentions "stay out of my spot" at the end of the song. Nevertheless, "Rockin' Good Way" which had been first recorded a few years earlier by The Spaniels and co-written by Brook, Clyde Otis, and Luchi de Jesus, turned out a big hit for the two of them during June of 1960.

  • Nocaro, I like that you give info along with your vids. I would never had thought that these 2 had sparring episodes. lol I know that he was more or less,an easy going guy, also that she was a perfectionist, but I guess she might have carried it a little too far...Brook has one of the most suave sounding voices and I like hers also..Good upload!!

  • @sleepytimegalz It's really difficult to determine what really went on in the instance of this vocal pairing since both participants have passed away and probably only Dinah herself could relate what her problem with Brook was. It's a shame the intended album of songs by these two was never completed since the two songs that were have become classics by themselves.

  • @Nocaro Yes, you are right...one voice certainly complimented the other...I loved hearing them together, but hey, who really knows what goes on in someone elses life. In this "music" business as well as in others, a lot of things happen that us as fans, probably will never hear about and that's a good thing!! Let me listen to their artistry and just enjoy what they've left us....
