If by winning war means you have to defeat and conquer a country then american never won the independent war against the British because England was also untouched by the americans.

The USA war goal: Defend south Vietnam from the communist

The North Vietnamese wargoal: Unite Vietnam and make the whole country communist.

The Communists enter Saigon in 1975 and south Vietnam is communist now.

Did I forget to mention Vietnam had 1/10 of the US population and only half of the country is fighting against the USA?

Europeans didn't win against the Mongols, they were only lucky that the Great Khan at that time died whereas Japan was only lucky because of a storm. In short, Europe would have been destroyed because knights are worthless and useless against Mongols if the Khan didn't die and given that the concept of Samurai is the same as the European knights, Japan would likely be decimated had the storm didn't appear.

@ngen1 People always forget that the Mongols had TWO attempted invasions of Japan, 1274 and 1281. The first invasion was a victory for Japan and forced the Mongols to retreat to the ships. The Japanese then built a wall around their shores. The Mongol ships returned then got stuck in the bay until a storm destroyed most of them.
