I asked my father to record this on one of my trips back to Bulgaria. Quality sux, but nevertheless, this is irreplaceable :)) Part 1 is played before the 10-minute children's show, usually a cartoon, and Part 2 comes after. See below for lyrics, and some more explanations.
Enjoy!

Az sum Suncho

Az sum Suncho, ida ot goritsa
da vi kaja "leka nosht" dechitsa!
Roy zvezdichki greyat vun,
vreme e za sun, vreme e za sun!

Stihnaha polyata i moreto.
S pesnichka prispiva gi shturcheto.
Spyat gradcheta i seltsa.
Leka nosht, detsa! Leka nosht, detsa!

I am Suncho*, coming from the forest
To tell you "good night," children!
Many stars are shining outside,
It is time to sleep, time to sleep!

The fields and the sea are quiet,
The cricket is lulling them to sleep.
The towns and villages are sleeping.
Good night, children! Good night, children!

* Suncho is the guy with blond hair in the video. He's the equivalent of the Sandman I guess, since he's the one that comes to say good night to the children and put them to sleep :)
This is a tune played before (Az sym Suncho 1) and after (Az sym Suncho 2) the last children's program for the evening on Bulgarian TV.

  • fuck this really made me cry too... it's like I'm there again all over.

  • no this video really makes me cry :(

  • Hehee, this reminds me of our situation in Vidin in the western part of Bulgaria and the Serbian TV :))) They had very good shows, and more "western" kid programs than us! Only i'm guessing it was much easier for us to understand Serbian than for you - Bulgarian. But i guess cartoons don't need the proper language - they're always fun for kids :)))

Greeting from Bulgaria after all these years!
