Tony Award winner Lea Salonga and Sunset Boulevard's John Barrowman will take part in an upcoming tribute to the music of Leonard Bernstein in Germany.

The Munich concert, A Tribute to Leonard Bernstein, will be held July 2 at the Klassik Am Odeonsplatz. The 9 PM performance will feature Barrowman and Salonga in a suite of songs from West Side Story with Barrowman singing the role of Tony and Salonga the role of Maria. The concert will also feature the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks under the direction of Leonard Slatkin.
John Barrowman recently reprised his role as Billy Crocker in the National Theatre's production of Anything Goes at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. He originally played the role opposite Elaine Paige in 1989. On Broadway, the actor starred in the Stephen Sondheim revue Putting It Together and also made a guest appearance in the New York company of Sunset Boulevard, repeating his London role as Joe Gillis. Barrowman's other London theatrical credits include Grease!, The Phantom of the Opera, The Fix, Miss Saigon and Beauty and the Beast. He can currently be seen as Captain Jack in the BBC series "Dr. Who" and recently filmed a small role in the upcoming screen adaptation of Mel Brooks' The Producers. Barrowman's solo recordings include "John Barrowman Swings Cole Porter" and "Reflections from Broadway." He will soon return to the London Stage opposite Rob Lowe in A Few Good Men.

Lea Salonga burst onto the London and New York theatre scene as Kim in the international hit musical Miss Saigon. For her performance, she was awarded the Laurence Olivier, Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Theatre World awards. On Broadway she was also seen in another Boublil Schönberg musical, Les Misérables, as the ill-fated Eponine, a role she would later repeat in the concert video of the musical. Her most recent Broadway appearance was in the revival of Flower Drum Song. (c) http://www.playbill.com/news/article/93658-Barrowman-and-Salonga-Team-for-Wes...

  • I LOVE LEA!!!!

  • Lovely photos of both of them, esp. John :P! thanx!

  • @hsupeiwei My apologies. I thought you were being critical. That's what I get for thinking. Your diction is quite good. Truth be told, I don't speak Tagalog all that well. It's been a while since I've had to speak the language. Even my mom, may she rest in peace, spoke to me in English when we first moved to America. I wish I could read & write Chinese as well as you do English. Peace.

  • Fangirling right now.. Love them both

  • Barrowman + Lea Salonga? Dude, I'm shitting myself this is so brilliant. <3

  • Oh my god. Their voices sounds so great together. Heavenly. Absolutely.

  • Was this concert ever released on DVD or CD?

  • @H1delta thank you for your explaination. actually, i am a chinese; so, i am not good at English and other languages at all. and at first, i don't know exactly what that language is; therefore, it's a little hard for me to use Yahoo Babelfish to translate. i am not impatient, just thinking now that she/he could read my question, maybe she can reply in the same language. maybe i should pay more attention to my diction. also, thank you for reminding me of this. lea is really amazing in this video!

  • @hsupeiwei Loosely translated, "LS's voice is really beautiful and she's my idol." You'll need to be more tolerant of non-English speaking people. While it's the most popular language to learn & speak, it's not the most spoken language. Chinese is. We on the other hand would not presume to tell you to write in Tagalog so we can understand what you're saying on a Filipino blog. Intolerance should not be part of any discourse. Peace...
