@saturnshooters so what was better about the PS1 version? I've not played either yet, but reading a comparison over at Racketboy I got the impression this version was better with no slowdown, saturn mode, (stage 0, hidden boss), and not having to play the same ship in 2-player. Only thing worse is supposedly the sound quality?

For some reason the Saturn Mode in this version gives you to Hibachi no matter how much you credit feed. It's ridiculous. x.x

sucks even more than psx version. music is good though.
dl the arcade rom and play it on mame or fba . arcade version is the best shooter ever

This game was no where near as fun or exhilarating as behemoths like Daioujou or Progear. But still interesting, nonetheless.
S-video. Hyperkin stick. Tate. Espgaluda every other day, DOJ in between.
I'm never going back.

This version on the Saturn has more loading than the arcade (of course!), the sound samples are a little rough but overall its good for its time! It has re-arranged music and a new arrange game version as well I believe. Good stuff.
"Well looky what we got here, a Multi-Assault Tank! Watch yourself kid.."

Got this game for my Saturn. Love it. What an awesome port, especially if you flip the TV to TATE mode. It's near perfect!

:O So THAT'S what Hibachi looks like...
So what about the Playstation version is better than the Saturn? :S Give me reasons before I go all Saturn fanboy and just buy the Saturn version instead of the Playstation version without second thought.
One of the best Shmups ever made. Yet the PSone Port was much better. A real shame.

You're right. The Playstation version was much better. It's funny how some of the Saturn versions are better and some of the PS versions are better. No rhyme or reason. One tough shooter this is!

It's mostly because the DonPachi ports to saturn were really cheap. Plus, most of the good Saturn ports were games made for the Sega arcade system that was virtually the same, and Cave has a habbit of using really specialised code that just doesn't transfer well with cheap porting.

Great info! Thanks. At least that explains why many of the Cave efforts on the Saturn didn't turn out as well as they should have.
