My 1995 Mercury Cougar XR7 has a T-45 5 speed in it, this noise sounds to me like the input shaft bearings or some kind of other internal fault.

  • Did you find out what the problem was?

  • @yeyo661 Yes we did, the 3-4 shift fork was cracked off, 5th gear had a few chipped teeth which sent small bits of metal into the bearings in the input shaft which destroyed the bearing, bearing race, and the front bellhousing itself. I'm parting out everything good that's left, and ditching the T-45 for a TR-3650 out of an 08 Shelby GT. Can't wait to get this car back on the street.
