@DoughnutMan01 Actually the slaves in America sang this as a code to the slaves escaping in the underground rail road. They gave messages through songs like this.

@PretentiousPainters English and stuff? urmm.. its just the English, and no 'God Save Our Queen' is however more people believe it should be Jerusalem, a old english hymn, as for swing low, its was what the ship mates sang when the took slaves over to america :)

@Borofalcon08 The song was written at Fisk University, Nashville TN. (a mostly African American institution), in 1909, long after slavery. Btw, I'm African American, and I don't know where you got your history from! When I first heard English sports fans singing it, it was a little wierd, but kinda neat.
