Heian Yodan (done with the Tonfas)

My name is Baruyr Baghdasarian. I'm a first dan Chito-Kai (Mix of Shotokan and Chito-Ryu) Karate Black belt. This kata I performed in Kingston, Ontario, is called Heian Yodan which I performed with the Tonfas.

I did pretty good. The judges were impressed. I got a silver medal for this kata.

Hey that was a cool and unusual kata, looks really effective, I like the really low stance with the frontal and overhead block its really kewl, Im always looking for more things to do with tsun kwas! Good solid form!

Ah very nice i practice shotokan and its Yodan with a weapon that just gives me more ideas for competions you should try kamas one of these days. I find them to go along very well with Basai Dai (sorry for spelling if its wrong)

Yes! You must be an expert. There is a hint of Kali right at the end. I believe if you flip the tonfas and grab them from the tip they become kali sticks with an extension (tonfa handle). So, if a person knows the kali sticks, he/she can use the tonfas as tonfas and/or kali sticks.

This is what I tried to demonstrate with the tonfas. Basically the variety of things that can be done with them.
