@1hipgig you hear alot of Dex's playing in any tenor alive.....He and one or two others were responsible for translating Parkers bebop to the tenor.....all who followed went to school on Dex, and the others.
Dexter's live solo here echos closely the solo he layed down on the classic "GO!" album. The tune was entitled "Second Balcony Jump" in a humourously dark twist on the word "Jump" often used in the 1940s to round out the title of jazz/Big Band themes. The sequence is based on the changes to "I Got Rhythm". Dexter was at the beginning of a long period of greatness from about this time as he reached his mature voice on tenor. A masterclass in modern jazz saxophone.
