A video by AYCC WA, with special thanks to Ashlea Thomson for choreography, and to Richard Berney, Dave LeMay and Firstlight for production and post-production support.

Hundreds of young people took part in a flash mob dance at the Power Shift 2011 youth climate summit in Perth. The creative stunt was designed to draw attention to the urgent issue of climate change, which will greatly impact the future of young Australians, and to call on our government to repower Australia with 100% renewable energy.

The dance was the culmination of a 3 day summit in Perth, with more than 200 young people coming together from around WA to hear from the IPCC and key politicians, learn campaign skills in training workshops, attend a youth concert and connect with hundreds of other incredible young people.

  • man, perth has a lot of hotties

  • Heaps of people still don't believe in human-caused global climate change, despite the evidence :S

But what's the harm of going for renewable energy anyway? It's cheaper once it's set up, and it'll help our environment remain stable in the future. I hope our Aussie government pulls their fingers out and goes renewable :D

  • @DistortedCookie, If anything, I believe the carbon tax will encourage foreigners to bring funds and invest in Australia, increasing the demand for the Aussie dollar therefore increasing the price. Australia making such a bold decision to promote clean energy production will most likely demonstrate confidence in the economy rather than insinuating a speculative attack on the Aussie dollar. Without making this move, the marginal cost of the carbon tax would have slowy increased with time.

  • @DistortedCookie, I find your comments very amusing given that you are supporting a public demonstration which protests for renewable technologies. Haven't heard of the distribution system that the tax incorporates? It is not a tax on small business or households, it covers about 500 of the large polluting companies. So unless you're purchasing coal or bauxite in the near future you may be effected. A family earning $100,000 will be $26 better off, not much, but still not a tax on consumers.

  • @philze128 The carbon tax is bullshit. All it will do is lower the value of the Australian dollar. In response to the tax that companies will have to pay, they will increase their prices, so consumers will have to pay more. Then in response to consumers having to pay more, they will have to be paid more in order to earn enough to live. It will just mean that everything costs more, and that (hopefully) we get paid more to compensate. I don't see how it can work. A carbon tax is NOT the way to go.

  • @DistortedCookie You obviously haven't heard of the carbon tax; it's designed to force companies to adopt renewable technologies. The government is already attempting to go renewable. Either you are some benign greens supporter, or you listen to Tony Abbot too much.

  • Amazing! Love the tracks.
