@bcawthon2191 thats one of the reasons there were over 100 million AK's made over the years, they're cheap to produce. American produced weapons are always more expensive and part of that is because they have high tolerances thus the process to make them is more expensive. i definitely advocate having both an AK and an ar-15, for various reasons. i would look into dpms for a good priced, good quality ar-15 for around 800 bucks. same with stag, bushy, and even armalite

@SurvivalistSong My brother did get a piston driven AR style rifle. I think Ruger manufactured it? Not sure. I did fire about 50 rounds through it right out of the box. No problems at all and no "break in" problems. I guess it all comes down to how much money you can spend. I just cannot afford to get an AR of my own at the moment.
-
@SurvivalistSong I've never thought of it that way. Just compared the two most common assault rifles. My dad prefers the AR-15, and I have shot it many times. It is very accurate and a shoots very smoothly. I simply prefer the AK style mainly because I can tear it apart, clean it, and have it back together in no time. I will stop comparing the rounds and focus more on other aspects after reading this information.

@bcawthon2191 And if you are wondering which cartridge/round is better in my opinion, the 5.56nato or the russian 5.45, I'd say the 5.45. The 5.45 beats the 5.56 in all aspects of ballistics testing. So much so, that insurgents in the middle east say the 5.45 is a "poison bullet" (during soviet-afghan war). This is most likely due to the air pocket present at the tip of the 5.45. This implodes when the round enters flesh, and causes the bullet to tumble, yaw, and fragment crazy

@bcawthon2191 And in conclusion with the cartridge debate, it is useless comparing the 7.62 with the 5.56nato. like apples to oranges. one is an intermediate battle cartridge while the other is a high-velocity smaller round. each have their place. this is why the russians developed the 5.45 after seeing the 5.56nato, and this is why now a days there are AR-15's that shoot new rounds like the .300 BLACKOUT which mimmicks the ballistics of the 7.62 russian. use what u need.

@bcawthon2191 So in conclusion, I recommend firearm enthusiast to own both rifles, the AR-15 and the AK platform (47 or 74). A lot of people who own both platforms say that they have a very difficult time choosing which one they'd pick if they were plopped into a warzone. The AR is a precision tool, while the AK is a steel club that happens to be able to shoot.
-
@bcawthon2191 Modern day AR-15s are just as reliable as the AK platforms. Anybody who tells you otherwise probably read something off an online gun forum and has no hands-on experience with both rifles themselves in the field. ESPECIALLY piston driven ARs. I would not say one is better than the other. The AR-15 is a precision surgeon's scalpel, while the AK is a dull blade. If you run out of ammo, you can use the AK as a club. It is a crude but effective rifle.
-
@bcawthon2191 I think of the AR platform and AK platform like this: the AR is like a fine-tuned mercedes benz sports car, and the AK is like a Honda Civic. The AK is reliable and so simple, a child could operate it (and they do in africa). The AR is a more accurate and precision high tech tool that demands training and discipline. The AK, like a civic, gets you from point a to point b.

@bcawthon2191 I have both rifles (the AK and the AR), and they both have their place. One is not exceedingly better than the other in all situations. and comparing the 7.62 with the 5.56 is like comparing apples to oranges. If you want to compare two cartridges that makes sense comparing, compare the 5.56NATO with the russian 5.45x39.
-
@bcawthon2191 I don't understand the whole reliability deal. Comparing the two is like comparing an apple with an orange.
How bad Does That Stock dig Into Your Shoulder, ( If At All ?? ) I'm Thinking About getting An Underfolder --- Thanks Nice AK !!

@tdawgee its not that bad, it definitely feels different. The butt of the stock is quite wide and it takes a little getting used to, but if you dont like the stock you can always fold it away and have a hip gun!

Great video mate. I just bought me the exact same rifle yesterday. The only other AK I have fired was a Russian AK, so I'm excited to see how this one matches up.
What type of ammo did you use? Steel or brass?
Also, did you have to sight it in or anything?
Can't beat that deal. In my opinion, they are much better than an AR-15 because of reliability alone. Plus, I like the 7.62 over the 5.56.

@bcawthon2191 I never shoot brass outta the 47, its just too expensive. it will eat anything you put in it, and in my case its either steel cased wolf or tula. after almost 1000 rounds, no misfires, fail to feeds or soft strikes, 100% goodness. when i got it she shot a little low right at 100m, nothing some front sight tinkering couldnt fix.
