In 2003, Dr. Donna J. DeSiatio, Superintendent for East Syracuse-Minoa Central School District, completed a study on the impact of prekindergarten programs.
DeSiatio studied 346 kindergarten students in the Syracuse City School district and she found the children that were involved in half or full day prekindergarten programs outperformed the children that did not attend prekindergarten on their assessment tests. DeSiatos reported that about 5% of children that came from all day prekindergarten programs entered kindergarten with skills equal to first graders.
