Starting the Weaning Process in Lovebird Babies

The first thing we do to start the weaning process in our lovebird babies is by teaching them what "big-bird" food is. We use Avi-Cakes because it is a softer food and easy for them to grind in their beaks. We use small pieces and place it in their beaks.

It is more effective after they have been fed because they don't give a feeding response. Also, we place them in a location where they can see the adult birds eating it as well (sometimes the adults come in the brooder!).
