Special Student Amtrak Train

During the month of January, Amtrak operates a student train that travels between South Florida to Washington D.C. The train operates 4 times Northbound and 4 times Southbound. (Thursdays Northbound 92 & Sundays 97) This is the train as it travels at speed through the Winter Park, Florida Station on January 17, 2006. The trains size can sometimes go as high as 25 cars.

Are there some Heritage cars in this consist? The very last car of the train and 2 of the cars near the front kinda look like ones of this type(or at least they definately look older than most Amtrak cars).

Yep, The bag car is the first car, made out of an old Heritage coach, the second and last car are crew dorm cars, former 10 - 6 sleepers. The crew dorm cars are now being retired, in fact the past few silver service trains Ive seen, have not had them in on the train.

OK look. Yes, America's Rail system is not as supirior as countries in europe and asia, obviously. But I don't get what point you people are trying to make! I think its great that these kids got to take the train to washington. Most of them have probobly never ridden on a train. So you guys need to stop trying to make a point when nobody is arguing with you. Its possible that a student on the train will gain a aprreciation for the railroad and finally develop the high speed system we need!!!!

Hah thank you so much for uploading this video! I go to school near the train tracks and every winter for 6 years I've seen this Amtrak train made up of amfleets and horizons and I always wondered what it was! Thank you for satisfying my curiosity!

I have a shot of one from the 80s in my favorits but I dont know if its still on line you wouild have to really go back in my favorits a long way to find it though
