This is part of research for Sequence's AW 2012 fashion line. Unlike its Central American neighbour Guatemala, weaving is certainly a dying tradition in El Salvador. San Sebastian is an exception with a truthful practice probably during the past 200 years. The fabrics are spun, dyed, and woven on foot powered looms.

The idea is to promote this craft to a northern audience (specifically New York) using natural dyes -- the weavers in El Salvador are not even using 100% cotton or natural dying anymore -- and re-inventing the traditional weave design with a modern and natural approach. Most importantly, Sequence will change the lives and vision of these talented artisans.
