VIMS Chesapeake Bay Academy: Coastal Ecosystems Field Course. VIMS Eastern Shore Lab, Wachapreague, VA. July 10-14, 2011. Fifteen Virginia educators, representing diverse grade levels, spent a week studying coastal habitats using oceanographic and environmental science methods and equipment. Data collected from the ocean side and bay side of Virginia's Eastern Shore was used to characterize the physical, chemical, geological features of representative habitats and the diversity of marine and shoreline plants and animals. Instructors and guest speakers introduced curricula and activities designed to help teachers develop field experiences that teach science to their students.
