  • I have a maryland bridge replacing my lateral incisor but due to a previous accident that made me need the bridge, the central incisor next to the tooth is discoloured (I think this is due to a crack it may have obtained beneath the gum as it is sensitive when drinking hot and cold drinks) and the metal wing by the canine shows through quite a bit making it appear discoloured too - should I get the bridge removed as well as the central canine, get teeth cleaned then get a new bridge or implants?

  • @chylogurti main downsides:

    1) if a metal wing is used it can sometimes shine through, giving a darker appearance

    2) last approximately 7 to 10 years : the other type of bridge where the adjacent tooth is crowned last longer, but are considerably more destructive

    3) if you tend to grind your teeth, then these bridges have a guarded prognosis

overall: excellent first conservative option, if it fails then you atleast have other options on the table

    hope this helps

  • Hi What are the downsides to this type of bridge? Do they become loose? What is their life span? Thanks
