This scene is typical after the July 1967 merger of SAL and ACL. These new Athearn GP-35's are in the SCL interim scheme(Former SAL units with new SCL lettering). The SAL GP-30 is by Proto 2000. These units are running on the Grand Strand Model Railroad Club in Myrtle Beach SC.

  • Need to get an updated shot of this with the new track scenery put in.

  • This was filmed at my Club layout, The Grand Strand Model Railroaders located in Myrtle Beach SC. We also now have a page on Facebook. This is the only place I can run my long Pig Train. I remember the transition period as a kid. My aunt had a farm here in SC located on the SAL EC division and I remember the merger In 1967 seeing former SAL locomtives with the new SCL patches and some already in the Black and Yellow. Also living on the ACL Myrtle Beach Branch you saw the transition.

  • Thanks for the comments. Yes I love piggybacks.
