I'm betting, when victor mature says "What's that funny smell?" Richard Widmark says "That's perfume" He was taliking about pot.
-
@fromthesidelines The Riddler is based on him too.
-
Richard Widmark channeled his inner psycopath for this role.
Tommy Udo is they type of guy that you dread being in a room with. He is cold as ice and mean as a snake. Victor Mature as Nick Bianco is amazing. His face alone is interesting to look at. Great movie.

So this is where Joe ''Crazy Joe'' Gallo got his role from!
-
Udo tells his moll to go home and wait for him while he takes Nick to a brothel. What's gay about that scene?
-
*Sexy Psycho Tommy Udo! The very genesis of the psycho/thriller movie.

I remember that satanic laugh when I watched that movie in Polish TV 30 years ago,as a young boy yes,yes ,we've had American movies behind the Iron Courtain in Poland
Widmark was super !
Richard Dyer must be a complete idiot then. I mean, what is it with people? Especially lately, a guy says, "Who needs dames?" or "I got caught bending over a guy" and the first thought is homosexuality. I didn't get THAT at ALL in these scenes; you'd have to be some perverted little kid. lol. America is so immature these days, so "sexually suspicious". Men in those days would dance or bunk together and think nothing of it. "Pals" didn't mean "queer". What a sad juvenile state we're in.

"Tommy Udo" was the role that "made" his screen career...and that's what he's best remembered for...rest in peace, Mr. Widmark.
