It's late Friday night before my IB tests and I'm taking a break from studying history to complain on camera. I had absolutely no idea where I was going with this video but I like how it turned out.

  • How come an ib student refers to latin america as if it were a single country?

You just cannot get past your nationalistic bias!

  • @GArodrigo Perhaps you refer to when I say that we can study either Canada, the US, or Latin America. I refer to "Latin America" as a whole because that is what the curriculum entails. Not sure what makes you think that I refer to it as a single country.

  • @fezmovies

you said so yourself: "Canada (saingle country), the USA (single country)(you should reeeally include the A) and Latin America (according to the trend you're following, it's perceived as a single country)"

  • @GArodrigo Yes. The curriculum is that the class studies either the US (one country), Canada (one country), or Latin America (multiple countries). Just because the other choices are one country, how does that make Latin America a single country as well? Don't make assumptions if you know nothing about the course.

  • @fezmovies just so you know, I AM taking the course (SL because the coordinator just wouldn't let me take a fourth HL) and my exams are this friday. it's not that personal against you, i just think that the naming itself is evidence of bias, it's just something that bothers me, EVERY time that I read or hear the phrase "Latin America" or I observe someone mistaking any other south or central American for a Mexican, it just makes me sick.

  • @GArodrigo Well just for the record "History of Americas" is only part of the HL (as far as I know, I could be wrong). Good luck with your tests. I think you're over interrupting it; nobody thinks of "Latin America" as a single country just as nobody considers "Europe" or the "Middle East" as one either. The nice thing about studying LA for the tests is that there are numerous leaders from various countries you can compare and contrast.

  • dont pick history.

  • and I thought AP world was bad... lmao

  • I remember when I had to do my ib exams..ib was somewhat new when I went and I was so depressed about them. after I took the exams I was so relieved to have gotten them out of the way hope you did well

  • you are very organized! how did the exam go?

  • @fezmovies yeah, it's a regional option, i know, i take History in HL but i'm doing the exams in SL... the teacher says that the populisms will work for R&R of single party and authoritarian states and the mexican and cuban revolution will work for Cs, Ps and Es of war. they might, but i'd rather focus on the core stuff
