This is the old Swedich technique for weaving tapes on an inkle loom. You can weave a couple of meters in an hour after some training. This is a much faster way than usualy are used at inkle looms to day. There were peoples in Sweden living at band weaving that were developing this technique for fast weaving. I have learned it from two of this old laidies in the midle of 1970. This inkle looms is aprox 150 yers old and still working well.

Denna vävstol klara utan problem 20 meter varp.

  • There is no set way in using an inkle loom and this is a good example of finding your own method and rhythm. This may be why "The Loom Merchant" has chosen this video to place on their video page. Good short video production showing what you need to see. We need more like this one. Thank you!

  • Thank you!

I must admit that this is not realy my own way to use it. It is the old common way in Sweden that the band weaving ladies that was weaving for living used in the 1800, 1900 and 2000 centure. I think it is a old valuable teqnique that must bee kept alive.

  • This loom is antique but there are people still making new ones. But you can use a normal Inkle loom for this weaving also.

  • Is that some sort of tapestry bobbin that you are using for a shuttle? It looks to be easier to handle than the typical weaving shuttles. Thanks for posting this.

  • Delightful!! Love the rhythm as you weave. I'll definitely be trying this.
