I have heard many criticisms of the NEW Catholic Encyclopedia. Whatever it says, it might have some generally good information, it is NOT a official Church document. I have no idea who is writing these articles or why. If you are going to talk about ECF, you need to ground yourself in their writings & not get your dope 2nd & even 3rd hand. The issue in the early Church was the NT not the OT. Little attention was given to it. The traditional Septuagint text was simply taken for granted.
well you have to first prove that the ROMAN Catholic Church is THAT Church....you're begging the question....
Also, you would have to prove the infallibility of fallen creatures within the Church...like it or not, the Pope is a totally depraved person with a sinful nature just like the rest of us and Christ nowhere makes a promise of infallibility to anybody because it does not properly belong to the creature, but to God alone.
Can you demonstrate the infallibility of Tradition from the only remaining words of the apostles and prophets, the Holy Scriptures?
the word "tradition" in the Bible "paradosis" means "that which is handed down"....can you demonstrate your meaning from within Scripture itself? Can you demonstrate that the apostles themselves believed in the assumption of mary or the immaculate conception? How come they never wrote to the Churches about these things??? Why are they absent from the NT?
The Catholic Faith is the only truly Biblical Faith. God is Infallible - Christ is God - Christ founded one Church (the Catholic Church) therefore, it logically follows that all must belong to this Church! All other Churches are NOT of Christ - they are false Churches!
Again, Scripture itself refutes your position. Scripture AND Sacred Tradition are BOTH Infallible, and have been guarded by the Infallible Church.
Traditions, of course, do not mean any old thing passed along, which may have been distorted - but ONLY the Doctrines which have been preached orally by the Apostles themselves (from the Holy Ghost) - even before a word of the New Testament was written!
YOu can read James White's book for yourself....it means that today, because there is no new revelation (Rome agrees with that), the only place where God's revelation is preserved is in Scripture and hence, it alone is the sole infallible authority for faith and doctrine....it is not the only source, as Dr. White clarifies, but it is the only infallible source. Other sources could be creeds, confession, etc...but they are subordinate to Scripture.
The True Church has been revealed by God, and confirmed by miracles etc. It is not simply a blind faith, without any assurance of truth. The Cathlic Church has continued to preform these miracles, in testimony of the Truth from the time of the Apostles, and continues to this day.
In addtion, the Church is One, Holy, Catholic & Apostolic, which are all signatures of the One True Church founded directly by Christ.

This is just rhetoric....need proof from Scripture. Exegesis is preferred over mere claims.

ok, I hardly doubt Paul had the Roman Catholic Church in mind when he wrote those words
Could you do me a favor and exegete the passage over email?

Sola Fide or Sola Scriptura???
