Just got this today as I couldn't be bothered to fix the Dyson DC04 (its motor burnt out after 7 years good service) I have been researching a new vacuum cleaner and thought on getting a Dyson upright again as I prefer Dyson as have used Dyson for years. I did not want another bulky Dyson upright again as I didn't like how heavy the DC04 was and it was very bulky. I really notice this now when I compare it to the DC24.

The DC24 was cheaper on Amazon and they delivered very quick (Amazon is always very good) I unpacked the machine and tried it out. Its a very good vacuum cleaner with very good suction for the motor watts, 650W with 120 Air watts, the older DC03 I used to use up until 2002 had 700 Watts with 90 Air Watts so this is an improvment.

The DC24 feels very good on carpets and the suction is strong and the brush grooms the carpet, it feels better than the DC04.

The only thing I dislike about this machine is that the hose is very short, but then you can put the machine on the step and use the hose, the machine sits on the step nicely. The Combi tool is a bit of a joke as its not very good for stairs but will do until I purchase the DC25 stair tool for it. The cord is very short so I have to unplug and plug in more, the DC04 had a very long cable in relation to the DC24.

The machine is nice and quiet and its only the brush motor that makes any real noise but its still a lot quieter than the DC04. The DC24 feels better built. The only issue is that sometimes the cleaning head seems to drop down when the machine is lifted, this happens when the machine is warm - there is a spring which works along with the 'head retainer' when the machine is pushed upright, this spring is near the exhaust air exit which probably gets warm also so it makes the mechanism a bit loose so it does this. Another DC24 used to do this also, so its not just my machine, this is only minor.

Great machine with good performance for the size.

  • @zmanifest I do like the DC25 but preferred the smaller size of the DC24.

  • @blakaeg Why didn't you like the DC25?

  • @vacuumlover1 What a childish comment! Are u 10 years old or something?? I can afford any machine I like. I like the small size of the DC24, its perfect for our home.

  • @blakaeg you just dont like the dc25 because you couldn't afford one.. i have both 24 and 25.

  • haha i think a dyson non clutched dc07 is the one you would like! with a floor tool :P

  • @blakaeg yes it sure is, ive used it in a store n one of my friends has one n i used it there too. Hope u have many years of good use.

  • I've always liked 'smaller' machines and used only cylinders cleaners b4. Used to use a DC02 when did cleaning job afta school, liked this, then saw DC05 for first time in shop I was amazed how small it was n bought it, much prefered over DC02, then got DC03 which was Gr8, only changed it due to the high noise n low suction. The DC04 was the only 'big' upright I had, for 7 years n was happy with until it burnt out. The DC24 is so small, I can't believe how good it is for such a small machine.
