actually manga is a Japanese word [now adopted by the English dictionary] used by people to clarify that the comic they are reading is from Japan. other than that they are interchangeable. Just like how the word "Anime" in Japan could be family guy or Naruto. But in the U.S. "Anime" is used for Japanese animated shows.

Manga =Japanese Comic and Cartoons

Graphic Novels=A Narrative work where the story is showed to the reader using the comic forms.

Comics=Short stories showed using images.

Comics = American Graphic novels. I.E. You should think before you speak.
