Wicked is a 2003 Broadway musical based off of Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" -- which is a parallel novel based from the 1939 film "The Wizard of Oz" and L. Frank Baum's classic 1900's story "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz". The musical centers around Elphaba (The Wicked Witch), a misunderstood girl with emerald green skin, and Glinda (The Good Witch), and ambitious, beautiful, popular blonde. These unlikely friends struggle through opposing viewpoints, the same love-interest, Oz's corrupt government, and Elphaba's fall from public grace. The musical involves events before and after Dorothy's arrival from Kansas and scenes, references, and character's from both the 1939 film and Baum's novel.

i love this musical and i found the end fanstatic and beatiful and sad but also kind of a cop out i think they should have glinda actually see elphaba die and then she would actually die so that when fiayro came to find her he'd see her dead so in the finale when their vioces combine it's for the last time

At 1:01 that is one of the saddest bits of music in Musical Theater history in my opinion. Just listen to it. The way their voices combine is just glorious with the violin swaying in the background...and then when the ensemble join in...ah...goosebumps. I cry every time I hear it.
