I actually live in the US. It was a special trip I arranged myself to tour some of the things and places I wanted to see while I was there for the first time. I flew into London Heathrow, and departed Stockholm Arlanda. I took trains all the way in between. Traveled on the Eurostar from London Waterloo to Gare du Nord, then a TGV Thalys to Köln, then a night train to København, then finally onto the X2000 to Malmö where it stopped then reversed to go Stockholm.

I took a train from downtown Paris to Charles De Gaulle, then hopped onto a TGV from there to the Haute Picardie station. For those wanting to travel there go on a sunny summer day and walk around the station like I did, you wont regret it. Exit the station and walk just about a mile (1.6 KM) to the north, there is a bridge where I stood. 49°52'12.77"N 2°50'2.42"E Bring a lunch and a drink or coins for the vending machine at the station. There is a bathroom at the station too.

Oui, it was a nice trip, actually the trip out to Haute Picardie was my very first TGV trip, but not the first at 300km/h, that was on the Eurostar from London to Paris. The day I was out in the Picardie region was nice and sunny, a little windy, but I didn't need a coat....it was a very pleasant summer day :)

They use 25 kV at 50 Hz for their high speed lines, don't they?
Quasi84 3 years ago
OK, my insider info tells me that, "On the LGV the current is 25KV 50Hz monophased, we call this "industrial frequencies". The TGV uses the 16 2/3Hz current on the classic lines in Germany, Switzerland and a few more countries, which ones I don't remember. A LGV or high speed line in Europe is ALWAYS on "industrial frequencies", that comes from an European protocol. The 25KV 50Hz current is also used on classic lines in the north of France, Slovenia perhaps Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg etc...
