Tum Teav is a story set in the sixteenth century. What makes it different from other pieces of Khmer Literary work is that it is based off a true story.

  • it's actually a TRUE STORY, a very old one. tum left monkhood to be with teav. tum was poor, teav's mother didn't approve of their relationship. tum&teav later received blessings for a marriage from the king but when they returned home teav's mother forced her into another marriage. tum was killed. teav killed herself after him along with pich&neang no.

  • the king found out about this tragedy and sent out a decree to have everyone in that village killed. that village is called phoum tbong kmom i think. the village was shut down and no one in the village was allowed to communicate with outsiders and vice versa. samdech ov just re-opened the village again not so long ago. i think it was SSB production that remade it into a movie.

  • Interesting, from what I've learned and read "Phoum Tbong Kmom" most of villagers were sentenced to execution by the king (buried alive leaving head to be exposed, their heads were stomped upon and sharp bladed rake were dragged by elephant). Yei Pan and anybody who was involved with Tum and Teav's catastrophe were sentenced to death. "Phoum Tbong Kmom" was supposed to be used as an example because they betrayed the king's approval of Tum and Teav's marriage.
