Yakima BowDown kayak rack review video & demo by ORS Racks Direct. Demonstration movie of the Yakima Racks 8004042 kayak carrier showing features including that it is compatible with all styles of kayaks, j-cradle design for ease of loading, lightning quick strap down too. Yakima BowDown cradles fold flat when not in use, eliminating any overhead clearance issues. Engineered with an integrated ramp at the base of each cradle to more easily slide the kayak onto the cradles. The Yakima Bow Down mounts directly to Yakima Racks round bars, any Thule Racks load bars as well as directly to all factory roof rack bars. Uses up very little crossbar space so you have enough room to attach 2 sets of the BowDown kayak racks to factory rack bars if transporting 2 kayaks is required. Optionally lock each BowDown cradle to the roof rack crossbars using a Yakima SKS 2 pack of locks. This kayak carrier also includes a pair of heavy-duty securing straps as well as a pair of bow & stern tie-down straps for securing the kayak to the front and rear of the vehicle.

  • mmm faster to lift it on the rack, using that retractable bar waste of time

  • The Yakima Boat Loader extension is intended for those that find it difficult to place the boat into the first cradle. By placing one end of the boat onto the extension first, many folks find it easier to then load the boat into the cradles.

  • The Thule Hullaport Pro has a locking lever that is a lot easier than undoing a knob on each rack. That said, the Yakima looks bigger and is probably better suited to a larger kayak.

  • Very helpful video. I really like the Boat Loader feature to help lift the boat.

  • Don't forget he ever important bottle opener on the BowDowns! It's a key feature :)
