How to Migrate from WordPress.com site to WordPress.org site

Detailed instructions on how to move your WordPress.com blog to a self-hosted WordPress.org site without losing anything.

Here's what you need to do:

• Get a domain name (try GoDaddy, NameCheap or 123-Reg) -- it is possible that you already have this if your WordPress.com blog is www.something.com rather than www.something.wordpress.com

• Get a webhost

• Change the name servers at the domain name registrar

• Set up WordPress at your new host

• Export your posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags in a file to your computer (XML file)

• Import the file you just exported from your WordPress.com site to your new WordPress.org site

I don't think WordPress register domain names without them preceded by wordpress, I hope this helps.

OK, I have a question. Please forgive my noobiness. I recently registered a domain name with wordpress. I didn't use godaddy or any other 3rd party service. Can I still do this if I've registered a domain name in wordpress?
