White Turf horseraces in St.Moritz. 100years anniversary show. Nick Heidfeld doing a testdrive in his BMW F1.06car. For the first time ever, a F1 car droves on the frozen lake. Traction Control is on hence the engine sound is horrible.

  • hahaha true soz :S but cmon agree with me here - it is stupid having an f1car on ice...

  • no, I don't think so.

It was a great show and people liked it - IMO the contrast of 1hp and 700hp on one side and to present the car infront of the mountain-landscape is interesting. People were also able to get very close to the car, to chat with the crew - much closer than during a F1 race on a protected circuit. So a great opportunity to get in contact with F1.

This of course was also the intention of the sponsors, besides the unique PR photos in the winter landscape. ;-)

  • this aint the 1st timean f1 car has been on ice mate -mika hakkinen had a drive in the two seeater and her his wife beehind her - either way its stupid...

  • if you would read my title more carefully, then you would see the difference ;-)

i.e. BMW instead of MB (also a Ferrari drove with spykes once)

    or

    frozen lake instead of road!

  • It's the start of new and more adverse challenges of old and new F1 racer its a whole different race and could attract a whole new genre of people

for one i would never watch races but would watch this in a hear beat!

  • Putting an F1 car on ice with snow tires is like putting a polar bear in Equatorial Africa.

  • It shows again the difference between snow tires and AWD. A rally car would easily beat a F1 car in snow, despite that the F1 car is much faster and powerful. This F1 car is equipped with snow tires and it clearly cannot get enough traction (because it is RWD). Keep in mind that a WRC car sends more torque to the wheels in first gear than a F1 car, but splits it in two between the axles. It's very interesting to see how the F1 engine revs up and nothing happens, thanks for posting this.
