Here's a clip by Compaq's marketing department from early 1985. Never really intended for viewing outside the company, this is one of the dozens of videos produced for sales meeting pep-rallies and such.
TECHNOLOGY TRIVIA: Here's a thought... When this video was made in 1985, there was (probably) less hard drive storage across the entire Compaq campus than there is in the computer you're using to read this.
PRODUCTION NOTE: This video originally had the Axel-F theme music behind it. Knowing that the YouTube copyright cops would soon disallow that, I have replaced it with custom theme music that modernizes the video a bit. I hope you enjoy it.
Good video!
Hehe, I read the Technology Trivia part. You are probably completely right! How much HD space would the entire campus have had back then? The computer i'm using to type this has a 40 GB HD, and my trusty Compaq Presario 5365 from 1999 has a 10 GB HD.

In 1985 typical computer drives would be around 10 - 20 meg . Even if there were 800 computers on that campus, total storage would have added up to under 20 gig.
Amazing by today's standards.
In 1988, I had a chat with one of Compaq's founding engineers. He had done some research and estimated there was approximately 3 terabytes of data storage in use ON THE WHOLE PLANET in 1988.
You can now (in 2009) buy 1 Terabyte external hard drives for around $100.
We've come a long way, baby!!!
