I like how this ending close the circle with the presentation scene. The same dimensional gate, the same higway.

@varaperkele It's a numbers thing. It stated so in the manual since the first x-com. For every certain amount of total troops that you have you get a new rank limit. So for example, and I'm just throwing numbers out of my ass here, for every 10 troops you get 1 sergeant, for every 50 troops you get 1 captain, for every 100 you get 1 major and for every 200 you get 1 colonel. Of course, you need to have enough troops gain enough ranks to justify having a higher rank in the first place.

The game is actually pretty good. Only the art direction is rather cheesy and childish. WTF with a retro flying car with red color? It's kind of sad really for such a good game.

We're not going to make it.
Boom.

The only exception to this rule is that they have to get at least some combat experience, otherwise they'll be a rookie/seaman. But if they so much as shoot at an alien and miss, or get shot at and survive (even if the alien misses), they automatically are promoted to squaddie/able seaman. There is no limit to the number of squaddies/able seamen you can have.

@varaperkele what the uploader said is true with all 3 X-Com games that I played much of. The ranks are given at the end of each mission, and are always awarded to the soldier (or aquanaut) with the most experience that took part on the mission. How many you're supposed to have of each rank is based on how many soldiers you have total. If you purchase a whole bunch of soldiers and have them sitting at home, you can come home from your first mission with a colonel and several captains.

@Xydonus I liked the gameplay of X-Com Apocalypse very much, even more so than the first game. And I loved the first game very, very much.
X-Com Apocalypse is my second favorite game of all time, and X-Com UFO Defense is probably my 5th or so. (I count TFTD with UFO because they're so similar)
In short, silly graphics but awesome game. Also, I kinda like the space age retro styling of it all.

The guy in the disruptor armor who got blasted was just an android. Don't worry, They can rebuild him.

Who'd want to get this....
I mean, its totally and utterly crap! Get X-Com (UFO Defense) Or Terror From The Deep, but not this. For some reason, this reminds me of the early cartoons of The Power Rangers...

The first game is indeed the best, but don't underestimate Apoc until you try it. If you can look beyond the graphics you'll find a very solid game.

I have a question to the most experienced players: what you had to do in order to get colonels or commanders? I managed 3 captains at best. Manual suggested it had something to with number of agents you had. Anyhow, could someone bother to tell? I'd be happy.

You need to have enough squaddies and sergeants in your bases first. So recruit more rookies and throw them in missions.

Is there any way I can download this video? I need it for my model.
And I already know about the gamespot download; I need something with higher definition.

Well, the original straight-from-the-cd resolution is 320x200 which, as you know, is about the same as youtube's. So.. the original is not that much better. Maybe a bit less compression artifacts though.
No, I don't have a download link, but try extracting it yourself from the cd using BIK-Extractor. The video is in Bink-format if I remember correctly.
