  • I adore Janacek and this opera should be better known!

  • I love this opera. The first 10 minutes are one of my favorite musical phrases of all time. Janacek really went all out on the lyricism here....more so than on his future outings, but that is the result of his late romantic roots. "Free as a bird I bask in the sunshine". Philip Langridge is a revelation.
