I have Aspeger's. I am proud of who I am. If my child had severe Autism, I would accept it as it is and love my child no matter what. There is really nothing to cure, but there is something to treat (treatment involves behavioral training, not trying to eradicate Autism).

I'm sorry but as an individual on the spectrum, I believe that WolfRyuji's comment is somewhat narrow minded.

Does this work? This was posted in '07 does this pill work? I'm a single dad and my son is 3 and with just communication and coordination he can be saved from autism. Wish I knew about this before I had a child.

@pixywife my 6 yr old is profoundly Autistic doesn't speak ,doesnt use potty has psychotic episodes. insomnia and so on. I've been married 14 years and Autism can weigh heavy on marriages, but one thing I was apprehensive of the has helped my son and family [4 kids total only one is Autistic] was putting him in public school. And was actually impressed by the schools handleing of entire situation whereas doctors, hospitals, health ins co's, and the like make an impossible situation worse GL

Autism is a gift not a disorder! We don't need a treatment we just need to be understood!!

pixywife--have you tried Floortime or the PLAY Project--it shows the parents how to work with the child and take the child through developmental levels that he is missing.

To Pixywife I have 3 children 2 with Aspie 1 regressive autism
I have reversed 1 aspie and have healed the other to the point of mainstreamed 1st grade class. My teenage Aspie is getting better also. Autism is a form of Malnutrition. Start the SCD diet. Look at kefir and superfoods.
I agree thing parents can do with children who are autistic is to keep engaged look at Dr. Temple Grandin if she was born today she would amount to nothing because parents want a quick fix instead of doing a little hard work that does pay off. My source I also have asperger's syndrome.

I agree, Jpmadore1. I too have Asperger's Syndrome and have found drugs far less effective than good, attentive parenting. Besides, contrary to popular belief, a lot of autistics are high-functioning, or at least become high-functioning in their pre-teens.
Too many parents consider autism a curse that only drugs can remove, when really that kind of attitude is often far more harmful than the condition itself could ever be.
