This is only really controversial because it is British humour on an American award ceremony where usually everything is glazed with that sickeningly-sweet-to-the-point-it's-unbearable attitude of (pretend) to love thy neighbor.
To me Gervais is saying nothing you wouldn’t hear on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, still it's a great watch. I don't think I would bother if Ricky wasn't the host.

Honestly, which douchebag complains about stuff like that? I know Depp, Downey jr and DeNiro liked it, I like it and everyone else here as well. Ricky's fucking funny and even managed to make me looking forward to the next Golden Globes he'll host again, yeah.
