@VeryCosmopolitan freedom? what freedom are you talkng about... they're free to buy their SUV, to watch tv on theire fluffly faux-leather sofas, that's what they chosed, that's freedom, you're free to live in a communa if you want to, and I'm free to have a "pettite bourgeois" life... you don't mess with me and I don't mess with you, you can't get more free than that!
"Revolution was impossible back then..." and with the advent of complacent consumerism revolution is still just a pipe-dream. Nobody wants to trade their SUV, their Hi-Def television, their fluffy faux-leather sofa, and their other petty bourgeoise comforts for freedom. One is reminded of a quote by the revolutionary author, Benjamin Franklin, "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
This ideology is alive and well in Germany, though couched in much more politically and culturally correct language. Just look at how many jihadis find Germany to be a safe and hospitable welfare state from which to operate. The Frankfurt School ideology has been adopted at all educational levels all around the world. RAF nostalgia is strong in Germany and ex-members are treated as rock stars of a romantic bygone era when passionate LSD fueled revolutionary ferver was in vogue.
