Grateful for the yellow and red targets, but they kind of take away from the basic mountaineering skill of route finding. Longs rocks, climbed it 3 times now and can up and down it in 6 hrs 50 minutes. Crazy ranger up there told me it's been done is 2 hrs something by marathon runner who used ropes. Anyone looking to do it around 6 hrs in 09, PM and I'd love to give it a shot!

This young lady gets terrific kudos from this viewer. The best and accurately recorded Longs videos that I have seen to date. I am grateful for your efforts--it is hard enough just to focus on climbing let alone getting such great video.

Can this mountain be climbed in late May? Are ropes necessary?

I've gone during mid July and it was still rated technical. You would more than likely need ropes at in May.

@leesh32 thanks for getting back to me. I heard the mountain averages about one or two deaths per year. I am looking to climb it next year. From the videos I have seen most people are doing it as if it were a long hike. Is that the case?

@rudolph20 It depends on the person really and the route. I'm from Oklahoma and not used to that kind of altitude and my dad and I were there in Estes for a week and climbed it in about 12 hours from the Keyhole Route. Those used to high altitude can do it faster. Its about 8 miles one way. You definitely have to start early to beat the storms and crowds depending on time of year. We started out about 3 am.
