Guru Nanak JI Aur Nirarthak Chhath Puja

North Indian especially PPL from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh indulge in Chhatha Puja twice in a year.They bathe in the rivers and offer water to the SUN god.This festival seems quite a futile exercise to me.
We can not give water to the SUN this way And even if we succeed in this ,what purpose will be solved ?
This is quite a foolish act,instead of doing all these irrational exercises,we should convert this occasion into a meaningful day.I suggest that on this day we should clean our rivers/mountains/parks etc.
One on hand we consider our rivers sacred godesses(Esp. Ganga and Yamuna),on the other hand we go on polluting them every day.
We should spread the idea on this day that it is quite urgent to take care of our mother nature.Otherwise it will become life to survive on this planet /EARTH.
That is the way to celebrate Chhatha Puja ,according to me,what do U say? Plz. comment.
