Hello All -

It's very rare for a movie to come out at theaters here in Japan before it debuts in America, but Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen or トランスフォーマー:リベンジ
started its theatrical run here in Japan today, June 20th.

I went to the 9:20pm showing at my local theater, and me and about 25 other people sat thru a pretty boring robot slug fest. This one has more robots than the first movie, and lots of loud action, but I think the first movie was better, and I can't recommend seeing this one unless you're a big fan of the first film.

Here is the movie theater I go to:

It's a nice theater, and perhaps the "dubbed" version playing at 9:40 was more crowded than the "in English with Japanese subtitles" version I saw. But American movies in general just aren't a big deal here, with a few exceptions.

I'll see at least one more movie here before i leave Japan - and that'll be the new Harry Potter film in mid July. Not much else is coming out here in July, except for "Knowing." I know that came and went in America already - so if you've seen it, let me know if you think it's worth me spending 1500yen (about $15) to see or if I should just wait to see it on DVD.

Cheers,
Jasontron

This online review sums up my feelings about the film pretty well:

  • This was like the coolest movie of the summer!

  • are you gonna but the DVD? I know it just came out in America...

  • You look like my band teacher Mr. Prior. o: xD

  • err... ok. :)

Is that a good thing? Is he a "cool" band teacher?

  • On a related topic of CGI and Sci-Fi flims, I just went to see a film called District 9. Just came out the other day over here in America. (Oh wait, I keep thinking you're still in Japan!) You're back in SD. You might've seen it already then. But if you haven't, I'd recommend it. I did NOT love this movie. But it was worth the $12.50 admission I paid. It was different. Amazing effects. Highly enjoyable. A bit too heavy on the political overtones, but it had a message. Go check it out soon.

  • you're in NY - right? $12.50 huh... It's $11 here in San Diego, and yeah - I saw it with my brother last night. I thought it was excellent!

  • @qwuezalothus That's because it was only meant to be made for the special effects and MORE TF battles, cause TF1 had NOTHING XD But I still think the first is the best one, it's the most underrated out of em all so far.

  • @TohruNoOnigiri

Transformers 1 - It's supposed to be all about the story and introduction

Transformers 2- It was SUPPOSED to be all about the action and special effects.

Transformers 3 - It was supposed to be about innovation, history, and a bit more story and twists.

    They are ALL good.

  • @TiramisuHappy Aye, it's not the best film, but it as it's moments XD

    Japan all Robot animeshion>transformer

  • In Japan, there is a lot of robot animations.

Gundam mazingar-z getarrobo atom evangerion etc.

    There is a mania respectively.

The robot animation in the United States is a little.

  • if you dont know anything about transformers then you dont understand the g1 series go read war within those are the real transformers the movies have absolutly nothing to do with transformers.
