Produced by: Cree Putney, John Tangonan, and Jean-bernard Durand.
Originally a 6 projector slide production for the 1979 Steak bake, reproduced November 7th, 2002 for DVD. We gathered interviews from original members, our Tong mother, and current videos of what Tong has accomplished today. Enjoy this clip as it was made from the passion we have for Tong.

Long Beach Junior College, now Long Beach City College, was founded in September of 1927 and its classes were held on the campus of Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, California. On October 15, 1927, the Order of TONG, the oldest junior college fraternity in the United States, was founded. The name TONG was chosen because Greek-lettered fraternities were then illegal at Long Beach City College. "TONG" in Chinese means fraternal brotherhood. Because fraternities were illegal, TONG did not gain school recognition as an on-campus club until fall of 1928. TONG wasted no time in taking control of the school in all areas. TONG members were soon the leaders of athletics, service, and social activities. Members of TONG were captains of every major sports team, writers and editors of the Long Beach City College Viking Newspaper, student leaders on student council, and yell leaders. TONG was so dominant in its power that the Long Beach City College Viking Newspaper wrote in the Spring of 1929, "It is settled, TONG will run the school as long as the school is willing to be run." And so began the dominance that is still present today, more than a half-century later. We , the members of TONG, invite you to join us in continuing history of leadership and brotherhood at Long Beach City College.
