I'm not saying only good bands got air play, but so many of these radio stations are people driven. If all these people liked them, they would have gotten air play.

People did like them though, still do. They headlined enormous shows in the 80s (the Hollywood Palladium holds 3,000+) and still have a large following to this day. Are you doubting these facts simply because they didn't receive air play?
