The Bell Huey UH 1D with its distinctive thunderous rota slap and silhouette. The mini air display by the Huey took place at the 2008 Cholmondeley Pageant of Power in Cheshire.

The Huey was displaying its ability to maneuver, hover and turn in a tight circle over the on looking Cholmondeley Pageant of Power crowd.

It's worth watching to the end. All of a sudden a guy with a bucket gets in the Huey and when at a low altitude drops a bucket full of tennis balls onto the field.

It confused us... as we were talking to the guy before her ran off to get his ball and he was getting a bit stressed, but I believe it was to raise money for the North West Air Ambulance -- so all in a good cause for probably the best job in the world.

The tennis balls were the equivalent of a raffle ticket, they were all numbered and the closest to the target which wasn't visible to us (a high-vis jacket tied to a post) won the prize of a helicopter flying lesson.

Having had a go at flying the Jet Ranger we arrived in back to Barton I probably could have done with a lesson beforehand!

  • Please not it is not a 'D' it is a 'H' model! The reason for the ball drop from the helicopter was to raise money for the North West Air Ambulance. The tennis balls were the equivalent of a raffle ticket, they were all numbered and the closest to the target (which you must not have been aware of) which was a high-vis jacket tied to a post! won the prize of a helicopter flying lesson. HENCE dropping the balls from the UH.
