In the following video I outline what the average Appalachian Trail thru-hiker's diet should look like.

While hiking the Appalachian Trail, your body burns upwards of 6,000 calories per day. This is three times the recommended caloric intake for the average adult.

Of course the fastest way to get these calories is to blend copious amounts of fat, sugar, beer and insanity. Heavy on the insanity please.
