I'm undecided as to what preceded the universe. Thermodynamic laws suggest that energy is indestructible. However, some say that the total energy potential of the universe is zero. That the universe is simply a quantum fluctuation.
It does seem that the universe exists within 'something' higher dimensions?
Basically, I don't believe in gods because there are so many, and their stories conflict with each other, with themselves, and with science.
Cheers!

Well you seem like a nice guy. That shirt is mesmerizing by the way.
I believe that the universe is cooling and condensing due largely to it's expansion. As a result, atoms fuse, chemicals are formed, and that life is pretty much an inevitable result of that exponential process.
What awaits after death is exactly the same as what was prior to conception. nada.
I believe that the universe is ~14 billion years old, and that time, space, and matter began at that point.

@Paetaor Religion: Humanities greatest intellectual cop-out.

At 1:24 you ask the question why do we exist. To an atheist that's some what of a loaded question because it makes the assumption that there is a reason for our existence, or some being to which our existence matters which contradicts the beliefs of atheism. To an atheist that isn't really answerable. I believe I exist of because of cause and effect, which can be interpreted entirely as chance but moreover probability. Although believing that makes me an atheist, not all atheists believe that.
-
Yeah I like this guy he seems open minded. In regards to your reasoning that something must of created the universe because of infinite time. You don't have to support the big bang theory to be an atheist however it is what you say we believe in so i will address that. Before the big bang there were no dimensions and no light. Without this there was also was no time. Not an infinite amount of time but the concept of time didn't apply because the was no space and light by which to define it. :)

I don't think there are gods, not saying that I know there are no gods but I see no reason to believe in them.
Only a god could convince me of its existance.
Your premise that the start of everything was through god but god doesn't need a start is also not coherent in my opinion. Placing a god in as the answer to something you don't know is a cop out.
-
The day that you stop questioning and doubting everything you come across in life, is the day that you surrender your free will and submit to being a slave. That is the main reason I'm an atheist.
-
No disrespect but, it seems that religious people ALWAYS want quick and easy answers. You really should put your bible down and read a book of physics.
From your explanation of time -it's clear that your information is erroneous.
You say All of this couldn't have come from nothing, that it needs a catalist- Yet, when it comes to YOUR god ,the rules change--Could it be that you can actually see and feel everything around you and not your god?Maybe that's why he is magical??
-
So much to answer -- in the meantime, may I say that you are a very respectful and obviously well intentioned man. I admire that very much. I hope to have time to explain my conversion to atheism... although open to further understanding, and not blocked on changing back if given reasonable proof of God. In the meantime, bravo for being exactly the kind of person I would enjoy sharing thoughts with.
-
I'm an agnostic atheist. That means I do not BELIEVE nor do I KNOW there is a god. What do I "believe"? Why does anyone need to believe anything without proof? I don't need to believe anything. Nor am I arrogant enough to claim to KNOW impossible things to be true. Your citing the universe as some sort of proof of god is giggle worthy. It is simply proof of the universe, 'sans' evidence of god. The bigger question is not why don't Atheists believe in nonsense, but why do you?
-
How did you come to the conclusion there is no God
>I have very complexed family background. My mom's family is buddhist (but my aunt is catholic now and mom is STRONG atheist), My dad's family is christian (my dad was used to be a christian). Because of this complexed religious family background, when something happened I prayed to both Jesus and Buddha. Of course, prayer never made a single change in the situation. I was also influenced heavily by my mom, who also changed my dad into atheism.

So this is the main point what I'm trying to say:
I believe that the power of our human heart will make our society a better place. Though I think perfect society-Utopia- is impossible, our efforts of trying to make Utopia society will eventually make Earth a better world.
-
I am atheist and I believe in human power; but this human power doesn't mean 'science power' because the development of science has destroyed too much of Earth environment, though it brought us some impressive improvements in life (like medical science).
The man power what I'm referring to is the power of our hearts. We run to help people in Japan not because our logic tells us to do so, but because humanity in our heart tells us to go help them.
-
Where was God on Friday when Japan was destroyed? Or was that free will at work? I didn't watch your video. I paused it because I didn't want to hear it your stupidity. Why don't you just believe and leave others alone to believe as they wish? There is no God. I say this knowing that your good book says saying such is the only unforgivable sin. So if I'm wrong then its too late to save me so don't waste your time writing back

As an atheist I can't say for certain that a god don't exist. I do leave a slight possibility What i can say is that without evidence here is no reason to believe that one does. As for the abrahamic god I'm certain that he's non-existent. I'm also anti-theist based on the long and ongoing violence in the extreme that absolute religious conviction creates. T he world would be a safer place if there were no religion.
-
Because there is no evidence to show a god, and there will never be any evidence for the existence of a god. Any defense for a theistic god will simply "how do you explain this" and "you can't explain that"
-
> An infinite number of events cannot be transversed.
Well, the problem here is that you're confusing the concept of infinity with numbers. It doesn't work that way. But here's an even simpler answer.
If we assume there is an infinite number of events in the past, going on forever, we have to accept that infinity must be defined. That is to say, it's occured in the past, so it MUST have a number.
Then you can easily plod through getting to current time.

> How did you come to the conclusion there is no God.
I didn't. I don't believe in him simply because I have not been presented sufficient evidence to believe in God.
> What is the explanation for why you and I exist?
Why does there need to be a reason? Do you derive meaning from some lofty goal or do you live your life within the boundaries of our reality?
> Where did it all come from, where did it all start?
Simply put, we don't have the answer to that yet.
-
Everyone starts life without god. God is concept that is learned much later.
I wasn't convinced by any of the arguments for god so I remain without belief.
-
It is not that I believe in the nonexistence of the Christian God,
it is a matter of that I do not believe in the existence of the Christian God.
I do not know, nor do I claim to know, how the unvierse came to be. I do know that I reject the unconvincing explanation Christianity has to offer.
-
I myself have been a student of civilisation and human religions for many years. Christianity itself is nothing new. There is nothing novel or fresh about it. It is a cobbling together of other ideas that came before it. Eternal life, forgiveness, love from a deity, Heaven, Hell, angels, demons, Satan, these are all concepts that existed before Christ and his followers created their new religion. There are more books beyond the Bible. Read some of them. Good luck in your search, Aleethis! :)

The universe IS space and time. They are not separate. We do not need to be puzzled by what came before the universe. Since the Universe IS space and time, nothing came before the Universe. Time and space did not exist. There wasn't even nothing, for noting is at least a concept, and there were no concepts. This is unfathomable to the human mind, because we are born, live and die. We experience the Universe in terms of time and space.
I like this guy. He's understanding, friendly and eager to learn why we believe what we believe in. Also he, unlike many theists, doesn't bash us for what we believe in and is curious to our beliefs. As for my reasoning, i'm lazy right now so read what "RationalConclusion", "SteveIsTheMan1990" & what "di739" said. That's not my full beliefs, but in a nutshell it could be described as that.
