Governor Mike Beebe today delivered the 2009 State of the State Address to the 87th General Assembly. During his speech, the Governor stressed the importance of creating opportunities for all of our citizens, and continuing to move Arkansas forward. Fully funding K-12 education in public schools, expanding economic development, and improving our system of health care remain his top priorities.
Other legislative goals the Governor hopes to achieve during the session include: reauthorizing the Quick Action Closing Fund; cutting one more penny from the state grocery tax; increasing the cigarette tax to help fund a comprehensive health care package, which will establish a much-needed statewide trauma system; and structuring the lottery scholarship system to make it transparent and efficient.
