I think he is the best Bach interpreter from brass players. None of note is out of context.

He was the best Tuba player ever, but more importantly, he was a great musician!

Many great players emerge through each generation. However, John Fletcher´s musical mastery of the tuba has not really been surpassed. He was a truly great artist who also possessed a unique sense of humour. Viva!

@jamesgourlaytuba Agreed, James. John was a tremendous musician and one of the greatest legends in the world of tuba. Every tuba player I know has been influenced by John Fletcher, and I'm no exception.

John was the master, my friend and my inspiration as a musician. Simply the best!

Nice!!!
If only I was half as good as him...

so beautiful! could somebody tell me the name of the cd? would like to find it! is it all only bach? all suites? :)

He is easily one of the best tubists ever, both on the Boosey/Besson and Holton. It's a shame he left so early.
JF was the single greatest influence on my development as a player. I wore out the recording I had of his performance of the Vaughan-Williams concerto with the LSO. Second-hand, I learnt of the little strengthening and sound enhancing exercises he used and used them myself to good affect. I heard him live only once with PJBE - wow!
