@DontBelieveWotUThink I should say you can't *consider* one without the other. You can definitely have a potential difference, without current though, or not a measurable current. Static case versus dynamic case.
@mmmmmarcus I see this argument everywhere. Is it volts or is it amps? Well the real answer is that it's both, plus more. Volts is a measure of potential difference and Amps a measure of current. You can't have one without the other, and everyone seems to miss the other important factor, resistance. You can easily survive 100,000V if there is high enough resistance. I am looking at a picture of a girl touching 100,000V with a smile on her face. Volts didn't knock Jennifer down!
@SlimySnail44 Wrong. Volts knock you down. People have been drowned and injured by being shocked by electric catfish. Voltages of greater than 50 V applied across dry unbroken human skin are capable of producing heart fibrillation. The arms are close enough to your chest that a large electric catfish can make you jerk hard enough to break ribs, or accidentally punch glass.
@minimantam Why the hell is EVERY comment involving electricity on friggin VOLTS?? AMPS ARE WAY MORE IMPORTANT because amps are what cause injury. Volts don't do shit ._.
