Actually, you still can't be fruit as an energy food. Bananas, for instance, are much more effective than gels for quick energy. (Dates are also good.) The only advantages for a gel is that it's small, you can carry as much as you need, it comes in many flavors, and you don't have to peel it. Ounce for ounce, though, you're much better off with a banana.
