@BeatlesGuitarPlayer1 It's the vintage HiloTron pickup with a British made AC30 that does the trick... and the flatwounds help :). Some people think Day Tripper was recorded with the Gibson ES-345 that George had in the fall of 1965 (and used on the December 1965 UK tour)... I think there's a Fender Stratocaster overdubbed under the main lead line, and it's either the Tennessean or the Gibson ES-345 doubling the riff.
@dreemeagle Thanks. Yeah, the Gretsches with flatwounds can only do so much :p. With rounds they're a little better at the growl, especially a Gent with Filtertrons, but you just need flatwounds to get certain sounds. The Tennessean sounds great with the flats :). However, I do now keep rounds on my Country Gent.
