  • I have loved this song for years & years. Every chord, wherever her voice goes, however her fingers works the strings - I am absolutely comforted within. And what's more, I always smile.

So, hey, everyone: I love this song!

Absolutely beautiful music...but it hurts to look at that out of focus pic of Joan Baez.

  • @johnnymckiernan .. johnny yer not wrong ..it was rewritten by mc peake....origins def in scotland...but our music and theres is very much the same...typical song is the Curragh of Kildare considered irish but writen in Scotland about a british soldier serving in the Curragh Camp ,a british Army Stronghold in county Kildare till a couple of decades ago!!

  • @johnnymckiernan It is an Irish version of a much older Scottish song. Braes of Balquhidder. The tunes are kind of similar but not the same which could just be folk process through time. The words are lifted almost verbatim from the Scottish song though!

  • @AlexandraB1956 This is not a Scottish song.It is Irish composed by Francie Mc Peake ,Belfast

  • @AlexandraB1956 it's also funny that Joan Baez' mom is Scottish! Born in Edinburgh.

  • It's funny, that ... she's got the better voice, yet the version of The Corries sounds somehow much better. Is it because it is a Scottish song and so The Corries have it more in their blood...

  • @nfldman1976 Why so difficult? Did I say you weren't entitled to your opinion?

  • @wookie20f Your certainly entitled to your opinion, as I am mine.
